Foreign Minister Dr. Tedros Adhanom today received the head of Somalia’s Jubaland Interim Administration, Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed Islaan “Madobe”, to discuss current issues.

Sheikh Ahmed Madobe hailed Ethiopia’s effort to narrow differences and to bring reconciliation between Jubaland and the Federal Government. He said Jubaland was now peaceful and it wanted to play an exemplary role in enshrining parliamentary democracy in the region as well as showcasing its good relations with the Federal Government as an example to other regions in the country.

He noted that some differences on minor issues had emerged between Jubaland and the neighboring South West State. He said these needed Ethiopia’s attention as a guarantor of the peace process in Somalia and requested Ethiopia’s help to resolve these differences.

Dr. Tedros said these could be solved without any external involvement, adding that he was fully confident that the two sides would be able to settle differences in a peaceful manner in as short a time as possible.
